fall-2014-tips-for-winter-storms-02_202235442236.jpg_gallery_maxGuess what? It isn’t spring. Not even close. And in New York, we’re bracing for yet another round of winter precipitation, scheduled just in time to end Fashion Week on a chilly, wet note. And though a little snow, rain, slush, and ice pellets can’t put a downer on the great collections we’ve seen, more frozen water means more of the same-old routine: Slide on your coat, wrap a scarf around your neck, smush your hair into a hat, go outside, freeze, come in, do it all again. Is there any way to enjoy the pile-on process?

Looking at the fall 2014 runways, it seems designers were feeling winter-accessory fatigue as well and developed some inspired new (actually new!) ways to guard against the cold.Thakoon, for example, showed his knits with snug knit capelets over them. To make your own, simply slip a turtleneck over your head without putting your arms through the sleeves. Wrap the sleeves around the neck and behold! A new kind of neck-warming garment is at your disposal. Or consider putting a sweater over your shoulders prep-school style, but wrap the sleeves like a scarf, a right-now-take on the way Derek Lam styled scarves in his fall collection. At Hugo Boss, a large, wide scarf was draped around a model’s neck and left to hang like a cape. And after seeing models swathed in blanket-like scarves at Prabal Gurung,Vogue’Kelly Connor decided to wear a merino wool baby blanket as a scarf; wrapping a knit that’s square-shaped takes on a completely different look. In this impending storm, consider just grabbing the blanket off your bed and wearing it out. No doubt, you’ll look like you’re drawing from the styling at The Row. Stay warm.
