If you have been following me for a while, you know that I gave up shopping for Lent. Everyone around me could not believe that I was going forward with it, especially since I share my daily outfits. Well guess what…I made it! I would be lying if I told you that it was easy because it definitely was not. Today I am going to tell you what I did to make it through those 40 days without shopping.
1. Try-ons without purchases
Going into a store knowing that I was not purchasing anything was so hard for me, but I eventually got used to it and did my try-ons so that I could offer some style inspiration to my followers. I love sharing affordable accessible clothing with others. This allowed me to stay current with what was in the stores without spending, which was a huge plus!
2. Filling my shopping cart
When I would get the urge to shop, I would go online, browse , and fill my shopping cart. For some reason it made me feel better at the moment. (Wow, I really sound like I have an addiction to shopping.) The funny thing was that when I would go back to the cart in a few days, I wouldn’t always want what I initially put in there. This taught me that I should not be an impulsive shopper.
3. Holding Myself Accountable
I love Instagram for so many reasons, but what I love most is the community of people that I have become a part of. There are such sweet people out there and I feel so lucky that I connected with them. I talked about my Lenten promise on my stories and many of my friends would encourage me to stay strong as I spoke about it. Putting myself out there, forced me to follow though with it.
4. Making a Wish List
It was certainly a difficult time of year not to shop with all of the new spring styles coming out! I would literally scroll through emails and websites with sales going on and it made me want to cheat so bad! When I saw something that I knew I really wanted..I simply added it to my wish list. This was helpful because it kept me focused on what I really needed versus just impulsively buying something in the moment. You should try it!
